GAFN Privacy Policy

 

The Georgia Association of Forensic Nurses, Inc. (GAFN) respects the privacy of all its members and website users. GAFN is committed to the protection of personal information that is provided by members and website users. It is the purpose of this statement to inform GAFN members and website users of the GAFN’s information assurance privacy policy and practices and explain how GAFN member and website information is maintained and utilized by GAFN.

All of the following indicate review and agreement with this policy: 1) Use of GAFN’s website; or 2) Purchase of GAFN’s membership, event tickets, or products.

Information Collection and Use

This privacy statement covers the collection of personal and non-personal information on the GAFN website and its offices. Personal information is any information associated with your name or personal identity. Non-personal information is data about usage patterns, reported in aggregate, which is not associated with a specific personal identity.

GAFN maintains personally identifiable information to provide and improve access to and content on the GAFN website and respond to the needs and requests of GAFN members and website users. Personal information is used by GAFN to better understand and meet the needs of its members and website users.

Personal information collected from GAFN members is used only to support member relationships with GAFN, with the exception of the list of member profiles provided in the “Members Only” pages of the GAFN website, which is only accessible to current GAFN members to facilitate professional collaboration and networking among members of the organization.

Non-personal, non-identifiable information collected may include pages visited on GAFN’s website, browser, and IP address. These data are collected for the purpose of facilitating a better understanding of GAFN's website usability and performance. Most non-personal information is collected via cookies. A cookie is a small data file that is transferred to your computer hard drive and identifies you as a unique user. Generally, the GAFN website uses cookies to remind it who you are and to access your GAFN member account. Cookies help GAFN understand which areas of the website are most popular and may help improve the website user experience. GAFN may use cookies to enhance the user experience and personalize content.

Financial Information

GAFN uses various methods to obtain requested information, including: 1) Membership access to individual online accounts; 2) Membership, event, and product purchases; and 3) Payment submissions. Financial information, such as credit card details, may be requested. Any such financial information submitted will be used only for billing, payment, and order processing purposes. Only the last four digits of the credit card number utilized to make the payment may be recorded and stored for reference use only. 

GAFN employs secure server technology for accepting payments online. This technology encrypts personal financial information before it is transmitted over the Internet, to facilitate secure financial transactions. Only browsers with the capability to support the secure server technology may only be used to make online payments through the GAFN website.  

GAFN uses personal information in its day-to-day activities to respond to questions, process payments, and affirm organizational membership.  

Disclosure of User Information

 

GAFN will not sell, rent, or lease any of your personal information to third parties and will not share personal information with business partners or any other third-party except as described below.

  1. Agents or Representatives: GAFN may utilize agents, representatives, or companies to perform tasks on its behalf and may need to share personal information with these agents, representatives, or companies to provide products or services to the membership or website users.  

  2. Business Transfers: If, for any reason, GAFN: 1) Makes a decision to buy, sell, or transfer assets; 2) Goes out of business; or 3) Enters bankruptcy, membership or website user information would be one of the assets transferred to a third party. An acknowledgement that such transfers may occur and that any acquirer of such assets may continue to use personal information as set forth in this policy is required.

  3. Promotional Offers: GAFN may send electronic promotional offers to its members and other website users; however, recipients will have the ability to opt out of such promotional options at any time.  

  4. Protection of GAFN and Others: GAFN may release personal information when, in good faith, the Board of Directors or its representatives believe its release is necessary to comply with law, enforce or apply its conditions of use and other agreements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of GAFN, its Board of Directors, members, website users, or others. This release includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection, credit risk reduction, and compliance with export laws.

GAFN strives to maintain the reliability, accuracy and completeness of personal information in its databases and to protect the privacy and security of its databases and the information contained therein. All GAFN databases are protected by reliable and secure technology.

 

Choices Relating to Your Personal Information

 

GAFN members have the option not to disclose personal information to GAFN; however, there is no guarantee that GAFN will always be able to provide certain services, products, or options should a member choose this option in this circumstance. Members who wish to opt out of GAFN’s disclosure of their personal information, please email this request to: admin@gafn.org

It is important to note that your previously collected personal information may remain in the backups of GAFN's records or website data. GAFN may retain certain information if its Board of Directors believes in good faith that retaining such information is necessary to comply with law, enforce or apply its conditions of use and other agreements, or protect the rights, property or safety of GAFN, its Board of Directors, members, website users, or others.

Review and Revisions to the Privacy Policy

GAFN reserves the right to periodically review and revise this Privacy Policy; therefore, GAFN recommends that each member and website user review the terms outlined herein from time to time to ensure familiarity with GAFN’s current policy for the collection and use personal information.
